Bucktail? No, too stiff. Calftail? It works, but just doesn't reflect light like the "real thing". Skunk? You're kidding right?
Well, not anymore.
Having worked around fur for the last decade as a fly tier and trapper, I know a thing or two about skunks. Having been on the receiving end of an olfactory overload, green liquid, leave you blind skunking. I (not by choice) know a thing or two about removing skunk spray.
Why go to all of the trouble aquiring the fur, de-scenting it, and then dying it? In my opinion, nothing comes as close to a "perfect" steelhead winging material as skunk (except for maybe polar bear). The skunk fur I've chosen to sell here is as good as it gets. The pelts are what are known as single stripers. Not just two little stripes of white down the back...We're talking so much white, that it almost becomes a single stripe.
